Dr. Resila Atieno Onyango has been chosen the new spokeswoman for the National Police Service (NPS), replacing Mr. Bruno Shiosho in new changes made public on Tuesday.
Mr. Shioso has been given the position of Commandant at the Kiganjo National Police Training Campus. Japheth Koome, the incoming Police Inspector General, will be succeeded by him.
Additionally, Dr. Onyango has become the first female police officer with a PhD to be chosen as a spokesperson.
She gained notoriety last year when she became the first female police officer in NPS history to get a doctorate.
She received a scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania in the USA, where she obtained a Master of Science in Criminology.
The senior police officer joined the NPS in 2003 and was honored as the finest female recruit upon her graduation from the Kiganjo training campus.
Dr. Onyango has also held positions at the Headquarters of the Inspector General of Police as the Deputy Director of Planning and as a Criminal Intelligence Officer for Interpol’s regional office for East Africa.
The most recent modifications made on Tuesday also had an impact on Central Regional Police Commander Manaseh Musyoka.
James Mugera, who has retired from the service, has been replaced by Musyoka, who has been transferred to the Nairobi region in the same function.
Lydia Ligami is to take Musyoka’s seat.
Peris Muthoni, who has also retired, will be replaced as the Commander in the Western area by Paul Langat, while Catherine Mugwe will serve as the Staff Officer in training at the Police Headquarters.
Police are certain that the adjustments will facilitate delivery.
More is anticipated once the proposed IG Japheth Koome is confirmed for the role, a close insider claims.
