Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi makes his exit speech
The minister claimed in the 1,063-word letter that he succeeded in the departments that he oversaw during Kenyatta’s administration.
Attempts to rig the August 9, 2022, presidential election in favor of Raila Odinga, the favoured candidate of President Kenyatta, were likewise denied by Matiang’i.
In the life of a man, there is nothing nobler than being called to serve your country. I came to this Ministry on Saturday, 15th July 2017, at 12.50 p.m., following the demise of Major General (Rtd) Joseph Nkaiserry (may his soul continue resting in peace).
“It has been five years and a month of an exciting tour of duty and pleasurable service to our beloved country under the great leadership of His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta. I want to thank him for bestowing his trust in me. I am humbled by the privilege to serve in his Cabinet in four different ministries over the entirety of his tenure. I can never thank him enough for this honour.
We have all worked together at this ministry to provide service to our folks. We managed to accomplish this while enhancing the wellbeing of the brave men and women who work in security. This has been expanded to other industries that are crucial to the daily operation of the government.
When my stint of duty is over. I am filled with joy knowing that we have not only met but also surpassed expectations in a number of significant and obvious ways. Our legacy will be rewarded by history. Working collaboratively with you and other extremely seasoned, capable, and devoted Public Service colleagues has made this possible.
Principal Secretaries Dr. (Eng.) Karanja Kibicho (Interior), Ms. Zeinab Hussein, and others have my sincere gratitude.
Commissioners General of Prisons: Mr. Isaiah Osugo, Mr. Wycliffe Ogallo, Brigadier (Rtd) John Warioba, and their incredibly talented and patriotic cadre. Mr. Joseph Boinnet and Mr. Hilary Mutyambai. I frequently sought their advice since I believed it to be a trustworthy source of motivation for crucial decisions and actions including policy, strategy, and the implementation of the same.
“For leading extensive reforms in our security institutions, these men and women have deservedly earned their recognition. The hiring of more police and National Government Administration Officers (NGA0s), the use of better and more resources, and the inclusion of provisions for clearly defined career advancement pathways are notable among these.
“During my travels across the nation, I have been moved by our colleagues’ obvious commitment to duty across the board of the public sector.
The triple threats of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), teenage pregnancies, and sexual violence that threaten our girls have been subdued to an all-time low thanks to our coordinated efforts. Our youngsters are making more learning transitions than ever before. The delivery of crucial services provided by the Ministry, like the issue of birth and death certificates, IDs, passports, and motor vehicle registration, has seen significant improvements.
“These services are now available to Kenyans in a shorter amount of time and at more sites throughout the nation, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming travel.
“The results of our multi-agency strategy for security and the fight against terrorism, extremism, and organized crime are clear. Tenor attacks have drastically decreased in number. Our cities are more secure.
I had the honor of witnessing the sacrifices being made by our family members in all of the specialized formations and teams within the Kenya Prisons Services, the Coast Guard, and our National Police Service. Although they are occasionally criticized, their sacrifices are what allow us all to live in safety. They have earned my thanks. And I’m proud of them!
“I will always remember your bravery because I was there to see your numerous sacrifices. I beseech the Lord to give you more of his mercies and the necessary fortitude. I hope it brings you joy and satisfaction to know that you gave your all for the country you love. May you never stray from your patriotic responsibility, which puts the weight on you.
I have developed numerous close personal friendships and solid professional relationships from our prolonged and frequent interactions. These cannot be changed or deleted in any way. I leave Harambee House having gained useful contacts, shared knowledge of public institutions, and a newfound feeling of purpose from the men and women I’ve met there.
“A new administration is about to take office. I encourage you to be deservingly proud of your contribution as security officers to the conduct of the most peaceful election in Kenyan history. Our industry performed brilliantly and professionally in defending the Independent Electoral Commission in the face of harsh criticism, derision, and baseless charges that it was planning to manipulate and meddle with the General Election.
