At Kisii’s Kereri Girls High School, a Form 3 student filed a lawsuit against the institution, accusing multiple teachers of sexual assault.
The child who sued through her mother claimed in a petition submitted to a Nairobi court that the institution is well known for the sexual misconduct of male teachers.
She claimed that nothing was done despite her raising the matter of the teachers’ unwanted sexual advances and physical assault with the management.
For the alleged offenses, they have filed lawsuits against seven teachers and the school’s principal, Teresa Atieno Otieno.
She claimed that between June 7 and June 14, 2020, when her name was listed by the class prefect as one of the noise producers, the physical harassment began.

She was left with bruises from the beating, and the swelling in her hands indicated that she was in pain and that the school failed to provide medical attention.
The same teacher allegedly came to the girl’s class the following day with hot water and offered to massage her injured hand. She states that when he spotted her sitting alone, he started making sexual approaches toward her.
She claimed that earlier this year, when the same teacher discovered her dozing off at her desk at 4 o’clock, they had a violent altercation.
In order to make up for their physical and mental pain, the mother and daughter are suing for damages.
She claimed that during remedial time last year, a second teacher made sexual approaches toward her in the staff room.
Then, when he was talking about succeeding in high school, he put his hand on her leg and massaged her inner thigh before withdrawing, she claimed.
She alleges that one of them, a male teacher, would walk along the road that was just next to the open space where the girls would bathe at four in the morning.
According to court documents, “he had established a curious habit of aiming the beam of light from his torch towards the females who were by the time enjoying a bath in the open area adjacent to the route.”
She has also made the astounding allegation that there was unrest in the school as a result of the girls protesting when this particular teacher was once seen kissing a student close to the dorm rooms.
The mother claims that in March, the DCI was informed of sexual misconduct and child sex exploitation at the school.
