Parents and students can now select a junior secondary school after the period was extended by 10 extra days by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.
The exercise, which began on August 15 and was initially supposed to terminate on August 31, will now formally end on September 10, 2022.
The Junior Secondary School (JSS) host school list has been been released by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to the KNEC CBA portal, allowing students to select the schools of their choice.
Students taking the CBC syllabus in Grade Six will be expected to choose 12 schools for the Junior Secondary school in the following format, per council guidelines.
2 National, 2 Regional, 2 County, 4 Sub-County;
Many parents are unsure whether to choose national schools that are far from their homes, making it impossible for their children to attend as day scholars, it has been discovered.
Magoha has reassured the parents that it is acceptable for them to assist in helping their children choose such schools, nevertheless.
Prof. Magoha said that students should think about attending schools close to their homes so they can be near their parents. “Children are free to choose schools they want, especially those eying prestigious national schools,” he added.
Magoha has been advising parents to enroll their children in junior secondary at day schools close to where they live.
Parents who truly want their kids to be close to them should look for schools close by, advised Prof. Magoha.
But he added that parents are free to choose whether to send their kids to private schools.
Magoha stated, “We encourage parents to sit down with their kids and choose schools jointly.
Additionally, the CS has guaranteed that every student in Grade 6 would be admitted to Grade 7 after successfully completing their primary education.
Next year, the Grade 6 students will be assigned to junior secondary schools in both the public and private sectors.
The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment’s assessment results will serve as a roadmap for Grade 6 students’ transition from Upper Primary to Junior Secondary School (KPSEA).
