The Kenyatta University Council has undergone significant reforms under President William Ruto’s leadership, including the reinstatement of outgoing chairman Shem Migot.
The cabinet of departed President Uhuru Kenyatta hired professor Chrispus Kiamba, who was fired on Friday by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.
George Magoha, the former CS for Education, had gazetted him.
At the height of the land dispute between the university and the federal government, Kiamba was elected chair of the KU Council.
Vice-chancellor Paul Wainana was dismissed by the Kiamba-led council for objecting to the government’s plans to divide up some of the university’s territory.

A few hours after Wainaina was named the new vice chancellor of KU, Machogu dismissed Kiamba and gazetted Mary Mugo and Eric Kindon Sila as the new council members.
With effect from November 4, the new council will take office for a year.
The appointment of Jane Wamoko and Carilus Odero Odumbe to the council by the Uhuru administration was also annulled along with Kiamba.
Part of the gazette stated, “With effect from November 4, 2022, the Cabinet Secretary for Education appoints—Shem Migot-Adholla — Chairwoman, Members: Eric Kindon Sila, Mary Mugo as the chairperson, and members of the Council of Kenyatta University for a duration of one (1) year.
The appointments of Carilus Odero Odumbe, Jane Wamoko, and Chrispus Kiamba (prof.) are canceled.
