The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has debunked rumors that the party wants to eliminate the two-term limit for president.
Johnson Muthama, the party’s chairman, declared on behalf of UDA that they continue to support the 10-year limit as it is.
In the midst of a commotion about the issue, Muthama claimed he had received numerous calls.
Many Kenyans have called me to ask about the position of UDA Kenya after Fafi MP, Hon. Salah Yakub, made a statement about eliminating the presidential term limit and capping it at age.
He made it clear that Salah Yakub, a Fafi MP, was not speaking on the group’s behalf.
In his proposal, Yakub argues that the age cap should apply rather than the length of service.
The UDA legislators, according to the Fafi MP, are presently working on a constitutional amendment measure that would eliminate the two-term limit and replace it with a 75-year age restriction.
During a weekend food distribution effort in Garissa, Yakub made the idea public.
However, UDA claimed via the party chair that the party remained in favor of the presidential term restriction.
Muthama stated, “As a Party, we embrace open Democracy and continue to support the two-term presidential limit with no ongoing discussions to eliminate it.
