Next week is going to be another week of mixed anxiety and expectations as Azimio la umoja and Kenya Kwanza legal teams will be bruising each other in the supreme court over a petition to be filed anytime soon by Azimio la umoja disputing the gazettement of Dr.Willam Ruto as the president-elect in the just concluded August 9 poll by the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.
Azimio la umoja will be dependent on Amos wako who was the attorney general of the Republic of Kenya during the late president Moi’s government and part of the late President kibaki’s government.Amos wako is the outgoing Busia Senator and a strong ODM Member.
Wako will be advising a team of 10 lawyers lead by senior counsel Paul mwangi who is also a personal lawyer to the Azimio la umoja presidential candidate Raila Amollo Odinga and the architecture of the famous BBI which was quashed by all courts of the Republic of Kenya of all levels.
Professor Githu Muigai has been contracted by the IEBC team to defend the commission from any wrong doing before, during and after the August 9 poll in which the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati declared Dr. William Ruto as the president-elect after garnering over 7.1million votes against his closest rival Raila Amollo Odinga who garnared 6.9 million votes.
Professor Githu Muigai is a distinguished professor of law on constitution matters in the university of Nairobi and he served as the attorney general of the Republic of Kenya taking over from Amos wako who had retired during the late President kibaki’s government,he was the attorney general of the Republic of Kenya until 2017 when he resigned from office during president Kenyatta’s second term government and went back to the university of Nairobi as senior lecturer to date.
Professor Githu Muigai is remembered for spearheading the team that represented president Kenyatta and his deputy during the ICC prosecution against the duel way back 2013 and he successfully delivered the two from ICC prosecution.
The two former attorney generals are perceived to be soft spoken but very experienced lawyers on matters constitution and like wako was part of the team of experts that drafted the 2010 constitution.
