A man is being detained by Kisii police on suspicion of killing his mother during a dispute over ugali.
Due to disagreements over food on Thursday evening, Innocent Monyenye, 34, of Bomiruga village in the Kitutu Chache South constituency, allegedly killed his mother, Jane Kemunto, 74.
At lunch, the man reportedly went up to his mother and asked for ugali.
The man developed a plan to kill his own mother after having his demand denied.
According to acting Nyanguru location Chief Duncan Mose, the culprit struck the grandma with a slasher and a claw hammer, slicing off her right palm.
Good Samaritans took the woman to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH), where she was discovered to be dead, according to Mr. Mose.
The suspect made an attempt to flee but was stopped by onlookers.
When police arrived, they protected the man from a crowd. He was brought to and held at the Nyatieko Police Station.
The murder weapons and the woman’s severed palm were discovered at the crime scene.
On the left upper part of her face, some flesh had been removed, and she also had serious slashes on the right side of her head.
When the culprit attempted to flee the mob that wanted to lynch him, he was injured.
The grandmother’s body is at the KTRH morgue, awaiting an autopsy.
The man allegedly had been bothering his mother about a plot of land he wanted to sell, according to the locals.
